From Australia’s ABC News:

Domestic violence figures ‘a shocking result’

The New South Wales Opposition says it is a disaster for the next generation of parents to be seeing so much domestic violence at home.  A report, commissioned by the White Ribbon Foundation, has found one in three young people have witnessed their fathers being violent towards their mothers.  It also found one in three boys believe it is ‘not a big deal’ to hit a girl.

The Opposition’s spokeswoman for women, Pru Goward, says it is a shocking result.  “I am surprised about the extent of the witnessing of domestic violence and, of course, very disappointed that so many young men believe it’s acceptable to hit your girlfriend or to press sex on your girlfriend when she doesn’t want it,” she said.  “That is all evidence of what they are seeing around them.”

The White Ribbon Foundation is a men’s group which seeks to end men’s violence against women.  Visit their main (international) website here.  They are having an event next week in the UK, police and footballers passing out white ribbons.  See the article on this story here.
