Woman in court over father's murder
Roy Gibson, The West AustralianSeptember 21, 2009, 11:50 am
A 29-year-old woman who was sexually abused and raped numerous times by her father when she was a child went on trial in the Supreme Court today charged with his murder.
Christine Wong, of Wilson, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 62-year-old John Wong, whose body was found at the Bunbury Seafarers Mission where he was the live-in manager.
The jury was told that a man named Tony Dennis Burns inflicted the fatal stab wound to Mr Wong's neck and the prosecution case is that Ms Wong aided in the attack.
Burns has previously pleaded guilty to murder.
Prosecutor Dave Dempster said that Mr Wong was released from prison in 2001 after serving four years of a nine-year sentence imposed for 22 sex offences against his daughter when she was aged between nine and 13.
Mr Dempster said Ms Wong and Burns shared a flat together. When Burns heard the story of Ms Wong's childhood he offered to seriously assault Mr Wong and that was the couple's purpose when they drove to Bunbury in June last year.
Medical evidence will be given that Mr Wong suffered a stab wound to his neck which severed the jugular vein and caused him to bleed to death.
Mr Dempster said it was the prosecution case that Ms Wong was present when the attack took place.
The trial continues.
