A 40-year-old Surfside man was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal domestic violence, according to Capt. Arron Miller.
Police were called to a Bi-Lo grocery store at 1610 Hwy 17 South following reports of an intoxicated person. James Thomas Lyndon grabbed a female by the arm and pushed her against a parked car, Miller said.
An officer shouted orders to the man to stop and get back, but Lyndon pushed the female again in the chest and knocked her to the ground, he reported.
Lyndon then stood over the woman and looked as if the strike her again. The officer tackled Lyndon so the female victim could escape, Miller said.
Officials investigated the matter and determined that Lyndon and the woman lived together and had children.
Lyndon is currently in custody at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, Miller said.
