GEORGETOWN, Texas -Georgetown police are trying to determine why a man drove his car off a boat ramp into Lake Georgetown late Saturday night, killing himself and his 5-year-old son.
Scott Douglas Hughes, 31 and his son Ethan, were both pronounced dead at the scene early Sunday.
Autopsy results released Monday afternoon showed that father and son both drowned.
Officers talked with Hughes' widow Monday, but so far they haven't been able to determine why the car ended up in the lake.
Police wouldn't comment on whether the two died in a murder-suicide.
Four witnesses said they saw Hughes drive his car off the ramp at around 11 p.m. Saturday.
Assistant Chief Kevin Stofle said about a dozen law enforcement officers who responded went into the water to try to rescue the pair, at a depth of about 20 feet.
Stofle says two of the car's windows were down.
