Dastardly Dads-Fathers Rights

Dastardly Dads

Fathers Rights folks blame moms for child abuse. WRONG! Sexual abuse, shaken baby syndrome, and other forms of violent child abuse are dominated by dads, stepdads, and caretaker boyfriends (60 - 90%). And as more dads are providing child care (either because mom is working and can't find other care, or because dads are increasingly getting unsupervised visitation/custody through the family courts), more dads are are being found guilty of basic child abuse and neglect. Who'd a thunk it?

Nichols

MUSKEGON COUNTY -- The man who ran over his 5-year-old son in a tent at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park has been extradited back to Georgia to face an unrelated charge.

A company hired by Georgia authorities picked up Daniel Nichols, 27, from the Muskegon County Jail on Monday. Nichols was returned to Liberty County, Ga., where he's charged with violating probation on a felony child-abuse conviction.

A Muskegon County investigation continues into the July 8 incident that seriously injured Nichols' son.

Local authorities await results of Nichols' toxicology report. That report will help the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office determine whether any charges will be brought against Nichols for the incident.

Police said Nichols was warming up the family's sport utility vehicle when he apparently fell asleep and rolled onto a tent containing his wife, Ardis, his son, and a 2-year-old daughter, police said. The son was seriously injured and was treated at DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. He since has been released.

Norton Shores Police ordered an inspection of the vehicle shortly after the incident, but the results have not been released.

Father jailed for 16 years for raping daughters

Tuesday, August 18, 2009, 07:11

A young girl from the Cotswolds was raped and sexually abused by both her father and her teenage brother, a court has been told.

The girl and her sister suffered regular abuse in what became a "dysfunctional family" in Cirencester, Gloucester Crown Court heard.

Recorder David Bartlett jailed the father for 16 years after he was convicted by a jury in March of 20 offences of rape and sexual assault.

Details of the case could not be reported until now because the man's teenage son was awaiting sentence for his role in the offences against one of his sisters.

The boy was given a three-year community rehabilitation order for three offences of raping his sister.

The Recorder said he took into account that the youth had himself suffered physical and verbal abuse at the hands of his father.

The court heard the boy was now in foster care and was said to be making good progress – and had been accepted onto a college course.

The father had denied six charges of sexual assault on the same girl who was abused by his son, two offences of causing or inciting her to engage in sexual activity, raping the girl four times and attempting to rape her twice.

A second set of charges related to another daughter.

He denied sexually assaulting that girl twice, four counts of rape and one charge of causing her to engage in sexual activity.

The jury found the man guilty of all charges apart from two of the rape allegations.

It was when one of the daughters saw her father committing an offence on her sister that she realised she was not alone in suffering.

The two girls then revealed the sexual ordeals they had both been suffering at their dad's hands and the police were called.

Jailing the father, Recorder Bartlett said it had been a "sustained" campaign of sexual abuse over a number of years on the girls.

He said it did not take much to imagine the scars his abuse had left on them.

Dealing with the teenage son last Friday, the Recorder said he had read a number of reports about the teenager – including a psychiatric report.

The Recorder said the youth had been assessed as having very poor self-esteem, a high level of emotional loneliness and had himself been regularly physically abused by his father, of whom he was in fear.

The Recorder said the sentence for the boy would be a three-year community rehabilitation order with a five-year sexual offences prevention order.

There was also a requirement that he sign the sex offenders' register for two-and-a-half years.

Dad, son held in assault (Houston, Texas)

Boys need their daddies because...who else is better to teach you to assault people at the drive-thru window at Chick-fil-a? Not surprisingly, Dad EDDYE LOVELY has some past criminal justice issues. Makes you wonder about all those efforts to make kids visit their daddies in prison--personally, I can't imagine the point unless you want to help generate more business for the prisons over the next 10-20 years. Nothing like encouraging a criminal role model in your own family.

Father, son held in assault outside Chick-fil-a in Southlake

08:57 AM CDT on Tuesday, August 18, 2009

By LAURENCE ILIFF and MARK NORRIS / The Dallas Morning News

Southlake police arrested a father and son from the Houston area Monday in a weekend road rage incident that injured a woman at a fast food restaurant.

Eddye Lovely, 49, and his son Brenden Lovely, 20, were arrested in the parking lot of a Southlake hotel Monday.

A 15-year-old who is also suspected in the assault was not identified and was referred to the juvenile justice system.

Both men face charges of assault with bodily injury. Eddye Lovely also faces a charge of making a terroristic threat.

Witnesses said the confrontation began with an angry exchange of words in the drive-through lane of a Chick-fil-A in the 2300 block of Southlake Boulevard about 11 a.m. Saturday.

The victim and her husband found their way blocked by a black Bentley as they were trying to leave after making a purchase at the drive-through window.

Witnesses said the husband honked and the Bentley's driver got out of his car. The victim got out of her vehicle and a shouting match ensued. According to police reports, the 20-year-old and the 15-year-old then got out of the Bentley and attacked the woman.

The woman was bleeding and suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

A police report says the victim's husband and other witnesses were unable to help the victim because Eddye Lovely claimed to have a firearm, though one was never displayed.

Witness descriptions, along with a cellphone picture of the Bentley's license plate, were given to police.

Bail for Eddye Lovely was set at $6,500. His son's was set at $5,000.

Eddye Lovely was convicted in 1985 for possession of marijuana, and in 1995 he received one year's probation and a $350 fine for driving while intoxicated. He was also convicted in 1997 of theft and resisting arrest.

His son pleaded guilty to credit/debit card abuse, a state felony, in April and received five years' probation.

Dad confesses in suffocation death of 6-month-old daughter (Lexington, South Carolina)

Dad CHRISTOPHER JASON ELROD has finally confessed to suffocating his six-month-old daughter to death last December. Dad says he was "agitated." He is charged with homicide by child abuse.

Mother in Mourning: "She Didn't Deserve This"

Lexington (WLTX)-- A Midlands mother has been mourning her child for months and now she's finding out how her baby died.

Her husband is behind bars, charged with killing his six-month-old daughter last December.

Officials say he suffocated her by holding her too close to his chest. Then, he lied to police.

"She was absolutely perfect and exceeded every expectation that I ever had," Regan Elrod says of her daughter, Calen.

She had always wanted a baby girl.

"It was just unbelievable that I had a little girl that was mine," Regan says. "I just wanted to have a mother-daughter relationship with her like I have with my mom."

Calen Cade Elrod died in December when she was only six-months old, and for the last nine months Regan thought it was an accident.

"We found that the father had taken and held the child close to his chest and suffocated the child," Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says. The father is 30-year-old Christopher Jason Elrod, Regan's husband of five years. Sheriff Metts says Elrod was agitated with the baby and initially lied to police. He's charged with homicide by child abuse.

"We got conflicting information and after we were able to run him on the polygraph and he flunked the polygraph on friday, he finally admitted to what we believed happened in this particular case," Metts says.

"You never think anything will happen to your children and you never ever think that it would happen the way it did," Regan says.

Regan will always remember her baby girl.

"She was wonderful, she was everything I ever wanted and more and I would give anything to have her back and she didn't deserve this," Regan says.

Her necklace is a small but constant reminder of Calen.

"She'll always be in my heart and when anyone ever asks me how many children I have, I tell them I have three, just that one's an angel," Regan says.

Now Regan is struggling to support her two boys, without a job. She is in the process of setting up a fund in honor of Calen.

Neighbours say girl was beaten up if she was caught while stealing

Teoh El Sen

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 07:31:00

THE tragedy of the abused 13-year-old girl in our report yesterday may be far worse. The girl claims that she was forced by her father, who also raped her, to beg in the streets for money to feed his drug addiction for at least three years. It was revealed yesterday that she may not have been the only abuse victim.

When Malay Mail visited the girl’s former home at the Wangsa Sari PPR flats in Wangsa Maju, family members claimed that her two younger brothers were also subjected to beatings.

“The father would take a wire cable and hit the children repeatedly almost every day,” said a family member, adding that they are seldom allowed to go out.

The teenage girl, who was rescued from school by the Social Welfare Department officers when someone called Talian Nur about her case last Wednesday, has two brothers — aged 10 and eight — as well as a six-month-old baby sister. They remain at the home with the mother. The father, wanted by police, has gone missing.

Worse still, Malay Mail also learnt that the 32-year-old jobless father — who has been in jail for drug offences several times — may have been coaching the teenager to steal during her “begging rounds”.

“She told us how her father showed her how he bumped into somebody to take that person’s wallet,” said a neighbour, who added that the girl would come home in the wee hours of the morning and missed school frequently too.

The neighbour also said: “The father would scold and beat her up if she was caught while stealing. He has even blamed her for something he stole and her photo is up in a departmental store for committing theft.”

Other neighbours also said screams and shouts could be heard frequently, with the girl crying for days before she was rescued.

Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah said police will investigate if the siblings were also abused.

He said the case has been classified as both rape and forcing a minor to beg.

Court to decide abused girl’s guardian

THE Social Welfare Department will be looking into allegations that a 13-year-old abuse victim and her siblings were also beaten by their father.

"The girl is now safe and being cared for in a welfare home in a location we can't disclose," said Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development Ministry corporate communications head, Alice Suriati Mazlan, speaking on behalf of the Welfare Department.

Alice said the department would naturally include the siblings in their investigations into the case.

"We will prepare a social report which includes details of the case, and interviews with family. This social report will be presented in court to decide her guardian," said Alice, adding that this would usually be the closest relative.

Otherwise the victim will remain with the department, under protection.

Meanwhile, Alice said the child abuse hotline Talian Nur had received 98,365 calls, as of August 16, since its inception in December 2007.

"Of those, 26,365 were productive calls. Others were prank calls, or calls with insufficient information," she said.

Till May, there have been 623 cases of child abuses reported via Talian Nur.

Most calls come from those who require socio-economic aid, including single mothers and senior citizens, followed by cases on children - which included child abuse cases.

Alice urged the public to contact Talian Nur at 15999 should they have any information involving child abuse

Dad charged with leaving infants at home (Cameron, Texas)

It seems that dad IGNACIO CASTILLO didn't want to bother taking the kids along with him while he went to Temple, Texas--about 30 miles away. So he just left the 2-year-old and the 10-month-old home alone. A grandparent found the children. Not a word about the mother. Was dad babysitting? Did he have visitation, custody? Wish the reporters would ask these questions.

Dad with violent criminal record abducts daughter, grandkids (San Antonio, Texas)

Dad ALPHONSE HARRIS, who has a violent criminal record and a history of mental illness, abducted his 13-year-old daughter and three of his grandchildren just after his ex-wife died (he even stole the ex-wife's car). When an aunt received a fearful text message from 13-year-old saying they were being held against their will, the child was apparently threatened by the father and all messages suddenly stopped.

Search on for man who took child, grandchildren

By Robert M Crowe - SAEN

The search for four San Antonio-area children abducted by a 53-year-old man with a violent criminal record and history of mental illness continued Monday.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert Sunday for 13-year-old Briana Harris, and her cousins, Dantae Lamar Harris, 5, Kenneth Dominic Harris, 6, and Nichelle Denise Harris, 9.

Sheriff's deputies said Alphonse Harris abducted the children — Briana is his daughter and the others are his grandchildren — and drove them out of state in a car belonging to his ex-wife, who died Sunday.

Bexar County sheriff's deputies believe that the suspect was headed to Pontiac, Mich., where he lives. He came to San Antonio at the beginning of August, after his ex-wife became seriously ill, authorities said. She became unconscious around Aug. 11 after suffering a heart attack or stroke, said Deputy Ino Badillo, a Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

She remained on life support at a local hospital until Sunday. Shortly after her death, Alphonse Harris packed the children in a car belonging to the deceased guardian and drove north. While the group was near Killeen, the oldest child sent text messages to an aunt that relayed her fears about being held against her will. The messages stopped after her father learned she was texting, according to Badillo.

“The suspect threatened to injure her if she contacted anybody else,” the sheriff's spokesman said.

Relatives said the children already had endured multiple hardships before the death of their guardian, Alphonse Harris' ex-wife, who divorced the suspect 13 years ago.

Three of the children were placed in temporary custody of their grandmother after Child Protective Services terminated parental rights to their 27-year-old biological mother, LaKiesha Harris.

Authorities and LaKiesha Harris said the suspect has a history of mental illness, including schizophrenia. Records show he has spent time in jail for assault bodily injury, violating a protective order, theft, criminal trespass and making terroristic threats.

“He's a very dangerous man,” she said Monday. “I just want him to return the children safely.”

Alphonse Harris is believed to be driving a tan 1999 Dodge Caravan with a Texas license plate No. 52PGX5.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office 24-hour line at (210) 335-4630 or (210) 336-4603.
